MOROCCO DEEP TRIP

April 25th

May 2nd

HIGH ATLAS | SAHARA (CHEGAGA) | ANTI ATLAS | OCEAN

True travel doesn't just make you see. Above all, it makes you feel.

MOROCCO DEEP TRIP

by NERODAVALOS

I'm Nerodavalos, and in April we'll be embarking on a new edition (and new itinerary) of MOROCCO DEEP TRIP, a journey designed by me and aimed at those who truly want to experience Morocco in depth.

Because only by going in-depth will the journey truly make you feel it.

MOROCCO DEEP TRIP aims to delve straight into the essence of a country as fascinating as it is diverse, along an itinerary that will traverse its heart, touching on multiple and diverse environmental contexts: crossing the high mountain region of the High Atlas, we'll reach the desert environment of southeastern Morocco, proceeding towards the Anti-Atlas, the Sousse Valley, and finally reaching the Atlantic coast. The journey will showcase diverse and representative sites and elements of the culture and landscape: ksars, souks, kasbahs, medinas, marabouts, mountain Berber villages, and nomadic communities, wandering between mountain ranges and the Sahara.

I offer MOROCCO DEEP TRIP in collaboration with Toubkal Guide, a renowned tour operator based in Marrakech, listed in the Lonely Planet guidebook, specializing in hiking trips with certified local guides.

Methods and methods? Quality, authenticity, slowness, exclusivity.

Why choose to join? Incredible diversity of landscapes, small group, local guide and second Western guide/tour leader, independent transportation, 3-day trek in the lesser-known and most fascinating desert, 4x4, healthy, quality, and traditional food, individual call and pre-departure briefing, direct involvement of the group in preparing the camels, the camps, and the meals.

Key words? Many. Road, nature, slowness, culture, freedom, immersion, senses... that will leave you speechless at the moment but will transform you into a storyteller.

TRAVEL PROGRAM

MOROCCO DEEP TRIP

by NERODAVALOS

Day 1

Marrakech-Tighza

After reaching the meeting point in Marrakech, we'll meet our travel companions and local guide (see the "Meeting and Group Meeting" section).
Everything will be ready to set off towards the High Atlas, the mountain range with the highest peaks in North Africa (journey duration...). We'll pass through the Tizi 'n' Tichka pass, with some of the most scenic views in Morocco, and Ait Ben Addou, with its mudbrick Ksar, an 11th-century Almoravid caravanserai and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Proceeding by minibus, we'll reach the Berber village of Tighza, hidden and invisible in the Atlas Mountains, where we'll spend the night at 2,000 meters above sea level, but not before being enchanted by one of the clearest starry skies we've ever seen. Overnight stay in Tighza.

Dinner included.

Day 2

Tighza- Tamdakhte - M’hamid el Ghizlan

After a hearty Moroccan breakfast, we set off early for a truly intense day, stopping first at Tamdakhte, where, with an easy trek through the lush Ounila River valley, we'll reach the small, charming village to visit the Kasbah Glaoui. We'll then set off again, this time heading straight for the desert (about 3 hours), passing through Tizi n Tinifift with a brief stop at a local merchant to purchase a Tagelmust (Bedouin headscarf), essential for the upcoming trek. We'll arrive in M'hamid el Ghizlane, gateway to the desert, for our first night of camp, where showers and basic amenities will help us prepare ourselves for our days of trekking in the Sahara.
Overnight stay in M'hamid.

Breakfast and dinner included.

Day 3

M’hamid el Ghizlane - Ouad Naam - Bogran

The journey to Wadi Naam by 4x4 begins at 9:00 a.m., and for about an hour we'll penetrate the desert towards (...). Along the way, we'll encounter ancient caravan routes, dune landscapes, and sparse Saharan trees. Once we arrive at Wadi Naam, we'll begin our excursion with a guide and walk for about 5 hours to the site called Boukerne (3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon). The path is covered with thin stones and descends into the sand. Lunch will be prepared under a desert tamarisk tree. After lunch, we'll continue on foot through the sand towards Boukerne. There, we can choose whether to walk in the sand or on long, thin stones.
Trekking: approximately 5 hours
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included

ERG CHEGAGA

Erg Chegaga, next to the Algerian border, is one of Morocco's most majestic and wild

Saharan desert expanses,

with dunes up to 1.700 feet high.

Day 4

Bogran - Chegaga

The next morning, after breakfast, we'll head to Erg Chegaga, one of the largest and most pristine ergs in Morocco, near the Algerian border, which will give us a glimpse of the immensity of the Sahara. Along the way, we'll make a short stop for lunch. We'll then head towards a vast field of imposing sand dunes (up to 520 meters high). This majestic desert landscape, wilder than others overrun by mass tourism, will be perfect for capturing unforgettable photographs that we'll take until sunset.

Trekking: approximately 6 hours

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included

Day 5

Chegaga - Foum Zguid

Today, we wake up early and have a hearty breakfast to set off on our last morning of trekking, which will last about two hours. We'll cross the large sand dunes known as Chegaga Ubaid Liya, reaching the road where four-wheel drive vehicles await us. Afterwards, we'll head by 4x4 for about three and a half hours to Foum Zguid in the Souss-Massa region.
Trekking time: approximately 2 hours
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included

Day 6

Foum Zguid- Taliouine - Taroudant

From Foum Zguid, we'll have the opportunity to shop in the town's small shops, selling dates, olives, oranges, and pomegranates, spices, and traditional fabrics embroidered by the women of the region. We'll then drive to Taliouine, where we'll discover the completely different landscapes of the Anti-Atlas, between mountains and palm groves along deep valleys. We'll visit the saffron cooperative, a local specialty recognized worldwide, and enjoy delicious dishes seasoned with this spice. The journey continues to Taroudant.

Breakfast and dinner included.

Day 7

Taroudant - Agadir

This morning, we'll begin our final tour in Taroudant, enjoying a day exploring the city, its ramparts, covered souks, and various monuments. We'll immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of what's known as "little Marrakech," known for its magnificent surroundings in the old city, which is distinguished by several neighborhoods with distinctly Andalusian architecture. At the end of the day, we'll arrive at our final hotel in Agadir, located an hour from Taroudant, for a well-deserved shower and some post-trip relaxation.
Breakfast included

Day 8

Agadir-Departure

Today is a time for farewells and exchanging contact information and photos. After hugging our travel companions, everyone will follow their own travel plans.
Breakfast included.

MOROCCO DEEP TRIP

YOU NEED TO KNOW

by NERODAVALOS

Guides

Travel dates

The group will be led by a local English-speaking guide who will accompany the camel driver and his dromedaries.
I, NERODAVALOS, will serve as a second guide and will provide in-depth information and support the local guide in managing the group. I will act as tour leader, interpreter, facilitator, and bridge between Moroccan and Western cultures. I will also support participants in preparing for the trip with individual video calls. A camel driver will lead the group on the desert trek.

The trip will take place between Saturday, April 25th and Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, starting in Marrakech and ending in Agadir. Arrival in Marrakech is scheduled for April 24rd, 2026. Return flights are not included in this package, but must be arranged independently by each participant.

Requirements for participation

People in good physical shape, familiar with trekking, well-equipped, willing to face the different environmental and climatic conditions and timeframes that the itinerary will propose, interested in food and enjoying typical dishes as well as those unfamiliar to their own diet, capable and ready to adapt to the different customs of Morocco and the conditions that a group trip entails.

Climate data

From March to May, temperatures are moderate, ranging from 30°C (86°F) during the day to 15°C (59°F) at night. This is the perfect season for camel treks and overnight stays in desert camps. You just need to be wary of occasional sandstorms, so in the Sahara Desert, you need to wear appropriate clothing and bring a scarf or face mask (I'll provide all the necessary information).

Desert Trekking

The desert trek will begin in Ouad Naam, which we'll reach by 4x4. It will consist of excursions, exclusive to our group, lasting approximately 6-7 hours per day, accompanied by camel drivers. On the last day, the trek will begin in Chigaga and conclude after approximately 4 hours at a point where the 4x4s will be waiting to take us to Foum Zguid. During the trek, it will be possible to mount the camels for brief moments, to change perspectives, take photos to immortalize the experience, and to rest a bit. However, it should be noted that the camels will primarily be used to transport all the equipment and supplies needed by the entire group for three days in this environment.
The overnight stay will take place in a mobile camp in technical tents flanked by a Berber tent to shelter the group during meals in the event of sandstorms or rain. Meals will be prepared extemporaneously with the support of the group.

Accommodation and food

Accommodation will be in small accommodations, riads, cottages, and technical camping tents.
Riads/hotels: 3-star hotels in Tighza, M'hamid, Taroudant, and Agadir, with double and triple rooms. Rooms will have private bathrooms and Wi-Fi.
Cabins: These will be basic, with double and triple rooms, no Wi-Fi, and shared bathrooms and showers.
Camping tents: These will be technical "Salewa" two-person tents, easy to set up, durable, and suitable for bivouacking in a desert environment.

Insurance

Services Included

It is mandatory that customers have basic travel accident insurance, which must be activated before arriving in Morocco and valid for the entire duration of the trip.
